The end-of-season Fun Day for The Pride’s junior teams and recreational football groups was held at Aston on Trent parish recreation ground yesterday.

Fortunately, the weather remained - just about - fine for the event, unlike last year. Each age group played small sided games, and took on the football challenges of the target shooting, the speed gun to measure the speed of shots and for something different the inflatable assault course.

Our teams were then presented with their end-of-season awards in the Pavilion (see below for details of winners).

There was also face painting, a crepe van, a counter for sweets, hot and cold drinks, a pre-loved stall, and raffle which was supported incredibly well by everyone - due in no small part to the fantastic prizes generously donated by a number of businesses and by club members.

A special thank you is due to the many generous donors of the prizes for the raffle; there were some terrific prizes donated by businesses and by individual donors, which helped raise money on the day which goes a long way to helping towards the cost of staging the Fun Day:

Manchester United - signed ball
Burton Albion - match tickets
Rollerworld - tickets
ClipnClimb - tickets
Quad - cinema tickets
Mr Christmas Tree - voucher
Willows Laser Quest - voucher for 5
Hickorys - voucher
Clock Warehouse - voucher
Dandelion Stationery - stationery and gift items
The Lodge Flaming Grill - meal for 2 voucher
Dolce Salato - voucher

The highlight was again the big game of coaches v mums and dads, with both teams egged on by the enthusiastic supporters! A very even game but the coaches held a 2-0 lead as the game went to „next goal wins” time - and the mums and dads put in one last effort to pinch a winner - before the mums and dads scored a controversial winner with the VAR operator asleep on the job;)
There might have been a few comments from the sidelines that it was karma;)

The event concluded with the announcement of the Volunteer of the Year and drawing the raffle prizes, before everyone headed home in time for the other big game.

The Final Award was to recognise the fantastic efforts of our many volunteers, the people who make it all possible. The winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award selected from nominations submitted by the members was:

Volunteer of the Year: Karen Kitahara
Lots of people contribute to the success of the club and it’s teams, both at pitchside and behind the scenes. This was reflected in the number of people nominated this year, who all merit recognition, but Karen is a deserving and popular winner. There will be more details of the Award and nominations to follow.

Finally
A special thank-you is due to the volunteers who helped organise the event, and who made things happen on the day with setting up, clearing away, catering, the raffle, and to DJ Phil for acting as MC and providing the soundtrack to the event.
