TEAM TALK | JUNIORS ROUND UP

Doug Outt12 May - 19:31

Reports from two of our teams’ mini-soccer games played yesterday

u10 Jaguars v Sleetmoor United
A warm morning at Lees Brook and an entertaining game for the Jaguars against a strong Sleetmoor team. Another great performance from the girls showing determination and character, and they were more than a match for their opponents overall.

The Jaguars had to withstand early pressure and shots at goal but soon grew into the game forcing corners and shots at goal with Freya and Esther O combining. The onlooking spectators applauded the players at half time in what a very even first half.

The Jaguars took the game to their opponents in the second half bringing shots at goal from Rose and Lucy with Zara, Katie, and Amber all going close. The defence had to be alert in the second half with Wren, Madeline and Holly having to make tackles to stop quick breakaways. The ever-dependable Alicia in goal made some stunning saves again. Player of the Match was Lucy, who worked tirelessly up front and found space to get on the end of crosses and rebounds.

U11 Lionesses v Sleetmoor
Girls followed on from the success of last week, continuing an excellent work rate and fluidity to their passing. With a good sense of urgency and a nice tempo to the team, they excelled from the start, dominating the first half with a good game awareness, using their voices, varying their play, excellent passing around the field and a good solidity in defence - made it hard work in the heat for Sleetmoor, who tired quickly. Our girls played together as a team and worked some nicely constructed attacking play. With some impressively struck shots on target, we were rewarded with some well deserved team goals.

Second half continued similar to the first. With Sleetmoor using both their power plays meaning we had less time to make those in game decisions. But we managed to keep up the excellent passing and finding space. Sofia our goalie had more action in the second half and continued her excellent keeping. Jess seemed to like the sound of hitting the post, rattling it several times. Jas had a good game and we loved to see her complete her personal target 'to control the ball and get away a nicely weighted pass, even when under pressure'.

Overall a great performance by the girls
