The Wikdcats were guests of Derby Futsal Women for their game against Sunderland on Saturday

Pride Park’s Wildcats had a great time at the University of Derby on Saturday when they were guests of Derby Futsal Club Women for their critical game against fellow promotion hopefuls Sunderland in the National Futsal Series.

Hannah Roberts, Women's Team Co-ordinator for the Derby Futsal National Futsal Series said: „We were delighted to welcome Pride Park FC’s FA Wildcats Centre as our matchday mascots for today’s game. We've been working hard as a club this end of the season to work with the community and help grow the sport as we believe Futsal is really beneficial for youth development.”

The Girls walked out with the squads, posed for photos before kick-off with the teams and at half-time went on the Court for a kick around with the futsal balls, before retaking their court-side seats with their families.

Derby put up a tough fight throughout the game but ultimately lost out 2-6 to the League leaders, and finish the season as runners-up.

The Wildcats’ lead Coach, Paul Randle said: „It was a great experience for the Wildcats. They really enjoyed the game and the chance to practise on the court at half-time. It’s a pity Derby lost to Sunderland. What really captured our attention was the skills and hard work the ladies put in. It was a very entertaining game and we really appreciate Derby Futsal Club inviting us along, the girls and their parents loved it and thank Derby Futsal for the opportunity to be a part of a great football experience - we just wish we could have brought them a little more luck!”

The Futsal theme continues in August when Derby Futsal Club stage a Women’s Tournament at the University to which Pride Park have been invited.
