This Saturday Pride Park FC's U14's were hosting Outwoods FC at the Racecourse. This was always going to be a challenging game against a strong and very capable team and so it proved to be. But our team really seized the challenge.
Having won the kick-off, PPFC were quick off the mark and our blue shirts linked up well and won their tackles. Some great through balls resulted in wonderful strikes and goals from Anya (2mins) and Yumi (3mins). PPFC didn't relax and kept the pressure on however, Outwoods FC were equally determined and got their reward with a great goal. Both teams continued to pressure each other and play good football, with PPFC's India scoring a fantastic goal and Outwoods responding with a goal themselves. At half time it was close at 3-2 to PPFC.
Shortly after half-time Outwoods FC scored again to equalise 3-3 and a little time later they were awarded a penalty .... BUT, a superb save from Taylor kept the scores equal. PPFCs resilience and determination didn't falter and combined with some fantastic all round team work, PPFC went on to score twice more with a well struck goal from Violet (who came very close to scoring another!) and another for India.
There was plenty of positive support from PPFC supporters - "Ooooohs", "Aaaahhhhhs" and Wooooops" in abundance!
After the game, Andy said: "What a team effort! It's great to see the girls working hard, encouraging each other and really bonding and enjoying playing together. We can't ask for more than that! It was good to see Isla play her first match for PPFC so confidently. I'm so pleased Taylor got PoM, she saved the penalty but also commanded her area bravely throughout the game. A BIG well done everyone."
