The Lionesses deserved the reward of yesterday’s win as they've worked so hard this season with the result so often not going their way.
Once again we are all very proud of the girls with superb well worked team goals.
Our first goal came from a move that started deep inside our own half; a series of passes found Jasmine out wide on the right wing and she Jasmine drove forward with power and determination, beating her opposing player. Sleetmoor defended well and blocked her way forward, forcing her out to the corner flag, but Jasmine turned and passed back to Ayla in support. Ayla reacted fast and made a pass into Sleetmoor's danger zone. Zoe collected the pass right on the touchline and expertly crossed the ball through the crowd to find Lily-May in a perfect bit of space for an easy, but beautifully placed, tap in.
It was really nice to see the girls find space out of possession and working together to create an excellent goal. It was great to see Lily-May use this 'first goal confidence' later in the match to score her second of the game: we believe in the girls and it's lovely to see that belief fuel the girls’ confidence to produce goals like Lily-May's second.
It was another outstanding performance by Layla, which warned her a special manager's award (which takes a lot for us to give out now days). In the first half she placed a beauty in the bottom left corner... impossibly the ball hit the inside of the post and a goal wasn’t awarded - it's play on and Sleetmoor cleared. Did the ball go over the line? It hit that small metal triangle at the bottom of the post and bounced out - we'll never know but it defies physics how the ball didn't go in. In the second half she repeated the feat - in bottom right corner this time, hitting the inside of the post, we watched like hawks to see the ball spinning like mad to roll over the line before we celebrate, but after going over the line it hits that stupid triangle again on the left and comes to a stop not quite over the line. The Referee consulted the linesman taking what seemed like forever to reach a decision to…. award the goal!
It was an exciting game full of drama against a team we really enjoy playing against as the games are always so close.
